Argentine Tango: A dance of infinite variety and fun!

Unlike most other dance styles, Argentine Tango has no fixed rules for tempo or steps. At every beat of the music the leader has the option to lead the follower to step in any one of several directions (forward, back, side, front-cross, back-cross, weight-change in place, boleo, gancho, etc.), or even to not step, i.e. to pause. The ability to add pauses and tempo changes to accompany the music is the key element making Argentine Tango what it is - a dance of infinite variety and fun. No two dances are ever the same just as every partner, every song, every night is different. The dance that results when these unique elements are brought together for this one moment in eternity is itself unique and can never be repeated.

Beginners Argentine Tango Group Class Outline:

Learn to communicate moves and intentions to a partner on the dance floor with ease. In six progressive, consecutive and intense lessons you will gain an understanding of and be able to execute the basic elemental movements of the Argentine Tango, from the embrace to simple circular steps, plus we will work on: posture, balance, fundamentals of connection, walking, weight changes and rock-steps, tango etiquette, fundamentals of leading and following, pivots, ochos, changes of direction, development in floor craft.

Kizomba:  An intimate and sensual social dance!

Kizomba is both a musical genre and a dance. It is an Angolan word for "party" and in the 1950s "kizombada" was an Angolan expression for a big party. It's a relatively new musical genre that started in the late 1970s and 1980s and evolved out of a combination of traditional Angolan Semba music and African rhythms fused with Zouk -a music originally from the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique. Although, It is a new dance in Canada and the USA, the popularity of Kizomba in France, England, Spain, Belgium, Portugal and in all the lusophone African countries has been growing rapidly for quite a while.
Kizomba has emerged as a more modern music genre expressed in sensual, lilting African rhythms and a very smooth way of dancing with some influences from Tango choreography, but with a distinctive freedom of the lower body, in particular the hips, allowing for forward/backwards and circular movements. Intimate, sensual and fun, Kizomba is by far, the very best new social dance!

Beginners Kizomba Group Class Outline:

In the 6 weeks class we will work on the following: Posture, balance, the embrace and its variations, open and close, fundamentals of connection, leading and following, hip motion, simple circular steps, dancing on the tempo, as well as playing on the off beat and using syncopation steps.
